Justin Doud is a journalist and photographer based in Austin, TX. As a University of Texas Journalism and Government student, he has a range of experience reporting on political, environmental, local and breaking news as both a writer and photographer for a number of outlets.
Justin has written for the Texas Observer and Houston’s NPR affiliate, as well as extensively for The Daily Texan, Texas Student Television News and Drift Magazine in addition to his work as a journalism student. He has worked as a photographer for all three student outlets and for Houston Public Media, and has been a fact checker for Drift Magazine and a copy editor for The Daily Texan. He has also been a producer at The Drag Audio Production House, gaining experience in multi-media coverage across a variety of mediums. Now, he covers the Texas Legislature as TSTV’s Associate News Director. Justin has a strong passion for politics, government and accountability, and believes in the role of the free press as a watchdog. When he’s not covering a story or taking photos, you can find Justin exploring one of the Texas hill country’s hiking trails or reading the latest John Grisham novel.
Justin is a student officer for UT’s chapter of NLGJA, the National Association of LGBTQ+ Journalists, and helped restart the campus chapter. He is also a cardholding student member of NLGJA and of NPPA, the National Press Photographers’ Association. Justin is a also member of the Texas Capitol Press Corps, credentialed in both the House and Senate. He was the lead writer for a team that won a second place Division I Pinnacle Award for Best Editorial from the College Media Association for coverage of UT’s DEI-related firings following the implementation of SB-17 at Texas public universities.
