The crux of Justin’s career as a journalist has been his local news coverage. Through Austin’s city hall and UT’s campus, he’s covered everything from the implementation of Senate Bill 17 limiting DEI practices at public universities to the university response to pro-Palestinian protests, as well as local elections, having questioned each of Austin’s mayoral candidates one-on-one about issues affecting students. Without local journalism, communities can easily be left in the dark, and Justin tries to counteract that by holding power accountable at every level through an informed electorate. He places an emphasis on relationship building over time in place of transactional one-time interviews, and is always open to meeting with anyone that just wants to talk before deciding if he’s the right journalist for them to share their story with.
